Can I use a power tool, such as a Dremel to remove calcium buildup on metal?

My washing machine lid has a spot of calcium buildup that’s pretty thick. Until I get down to the last layer, is there any reason a cutter or sander attachment on a Dremel tool shouldn’t be used?
